A bespoke tailor is a sculptor whose medium is cloth. A well constructed jacket refines and accentuates the human form.
This course is aimed at anyone wanting to learn the skills and techniques required to craft a tailored jacket from taken body measurements. Students will be taught the basic rules and principals of bespoke tailoring alongside mass marketing production methods. Students will become familiar with all the technical terminology used in the trade as well as all the trims and what they are used for.
To enrol on this course, students will have either completed the tailoring for beginners course or have prior experience in the fashion and clothing industry. Experience on domestic or industrial sewing machine is an essential requirement.
Successful applicants will learn how to pad, shrink, stretch, bridal, cross stitch, ease fabric, blind hem, and all the other specialist techniques required to manufacture a well tailored jacket. Individual direct body measurements will be used to pattern cut your jacket. A draft will be made then assessed for a good fit. Once satisfactory changes have been made to master draft, a block pattern will be produced for use in your individual women’s or men’s bespoke tailored jacket.
